Elizabeth Hornor is the Marguerite Colville Ingram Senior Director of Education at the Michael C. Carlos Museum of Emory University. She oversees a department of two full-time and one part-time staff members, and a volunteer staff of 65 volunteer docents.  She is responsible for the development and implementation of interpretative programs and materials for the Museum’s permanent collections and special exhibitions for a variety of audiences, from pre-school children to university students and life-long learners. During her tenure she has worked to integrate the Museum into the intellectual life of the University and the Atlanta community by developing innovative programs for the campus and the community, leading faculty members to describe the Museum as “a model for what the arts should be on campus.” She has developed residency programs with national and international artists. She has also developed cutting-edge uses of technology for a variety of audiences in the galleries and on the web including Odyssey Online, an award-winning series of collections-based websites for elementary and middle schools students and the Carlos Conversations series of podcasts. Her past professional experience includes serving as the Curator of Education for Student and Family Programs at the High Museum of Art in Atlanta, and working as the Gallery Director for the Galveston Arts Center in Texas.  She earned her BA and her Master’s Degree in art history from Emory University. She has received several awards including the Georgia Association of Museums and Galleries Museum Professional of the Year, the National Art Educational Association Museum Educator of the Year/Southeast Region. She has also received the Emory University Award of Distinction, the highest honor bestowed on staff.
