Sat., Oct. 17 @ 7:30: We celebrate the 250th birthday of the United States with a program featuring some of the most beloved music by American composers including the Adagio by Barber and Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue. The Beethoven String Quartet Cycle, Part I - The Vega Quartet

Sun., Jan. 23: Emory’s stellar Quartet-in-Residence, the Vega, embarks on a year-long exploration of the complete Cycle of 16 String Quartets by Beethoven over six concerts. The first concert will feature Op. 127 and Op. 59, No. 1.

The Bach Bowl: Inspired by Bach

Sun., Feb. 14 @ 4 PM: Beethoven’s Diabelli Variations are 33 piano variations, inspired by Bach’s Goldbergs, on a simple waltz by Anton Diabelli, regarded as a cornerstone of piano literature and a masterpiece of late Beethoven. It transforms a “banal” theme into a profound, 50-minute musical exploration covering vast technical and emotional ground, often humorously mocking the theme while showcasing “perpetual variation.”

Fri., April 16: Pulitzer Prize-winner and former Poet Laureate of the United States Rita Dove intersperses readings from her award-winning true tale of the origin of what we know now as the “Kreutzer” Sonata of Beethoven—and George Bridgetower, the Black violinist who inspired him—featuring recent Avery Fisher Career Grant Award winner Njioma Grevious’ performance of the work with pianist William Ransom.
